I never write reviews, however, I felt compelled to in this case.I am not an expert at phone and network wiring, but I guess I became one in the process. Pardon the lingo I will use but I learned alot on YouTube and the internet.
I started this as a result of A.D.D. I went to grab a soda out of the garage, then said to my self... what a mess. I started to clean up and then realized I couldnt because there was a spider web of phone and network wires through years of switching from Verizon to Cablevision and vice versa. Half of the phone lines were not terminated properly and as I started to neaten them up I got frustrated with the old "66 block" (look it up) and started ripping wires off. I figured there had to be a better way. I did alot of research and found that Leviton makes the only good product that is perfect for this application. I have access to rackmountable products through work and nothing fit the bill as much as the leviton unit 47603-18P. I thought it was going to be way over my head. I called Leviton customer service (ask for applications assistance from the Massachusetts location), they were extremely helpful. Dont let them steer you into anything more complex then the unit I specified. If you find that it isnt enough for your house (and you would need to have a very big house if this is the case), then just add modules to it. Its very modular and plug and play. I think I spent a total of $500 but I can assure you that it you hook it up nice, the value added to your home will be more than $5,000. You dont need all the extras I bought.... without them it would have been about $200 for the TLDM and Enclosure.
Anyway I bought it and a few days later I started hooking this thing up. I hooked it up in about 2 hours (I would have been 30 mins if I didnt decide to make it flush mounted, but then again... A.D.D. kicked in.)
I got the Telephone Line Distribution Module (TLDM), Cat5&Voice Distribution Module, Ethernet Switch, Powered Coax splitter, AC Power. I dont recommend getting the AC power because you will need an electrician to hook it in. If you dont get the AC power... its all "do it yourself".
It took me less time to rip my wall out (because i made it flush mountable), install all the components, test the lines and write this post than it did for me to try to reconfig my 66 Block. Once hooked in.... I looks beautiful and worked flawlessly. Even has the security system input.
Buy it... you wont regret it.
