Product Description
UltraTech 4003 Ultra-Ever Dry Top Coat, 1 gallon, works with the Ultra-Ever Dry Bottom Coat (sold separately) to form the two-part Ultra-Ever Dry coating which helps repel water and oil from a coated surface, protecting against corrosion caused by moisture and keeping coated surfaces dry, clean, and free of ice. The top coat forms a thin coating that fills its own interstitial spaces with trapped air molecules to prevent water and oil from wetting the coated surface. This product must be applied over Ultra-Ever Dry Bottom Coat (sold separately) and according to the instructions to be effective. The two-part coating adds a translucent white color and matte finish to coated surfaces after curing. The Ultra-Ever Dry Top Coat uses a solvent called acetone to allow the active ingredients to be sprayed on for a thin, uniform coating. The top coat can help protect steel, aluminum, and other metals, as well as plastic, leather, fabric, wood, concrete, and many other materials. The two-part coating is non-flammable after application and suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
The two-part coating is classified as a superhydrophobic coating, as it exceeds 150 degrees of contact angle when measuring the sphere of a drop of water on the surface; this means that water, upon contacting the coated surface, forms very round beads which roll off quickly, without leaving the surface moist. It remains superhydrophobic for 30 cycles in a Taber abrasion tester with a CS-10 abrasive wheel. The two-part coating is also oleophobic, which means that it repels refined oil and many other hydrocarbons.
During the application and cleanup of Ultra-Ever Dry coatings, the use of a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-approved P100 half-face respirator with an organic vapor cartridge, safety glasses, and protective gloves is recommended. The top coat should be applied over Ultra-Ever Dry bottom coat (sold separately). Shake the top coat can for a minimum of 3 5 minutes. For best results, apply the top coat at least 1 hour after applying the bottom coat to ensure that coating is dry. Apply the top coat in thin layers, moving left to right across the surface and then top to bottom along the same surface. Avoid over-coating or pooling of the coating. These two passes are the minimum application for successful results. Allow a minimum of 15 30 minutes dry time to test the coating; allow 2 hours dry time for typical use. In extreme applications or applications where water is not the primary concern (for example, water based paints or refined oils), the best results will been seen when the coating is allowed to dry overnight. The two-part coating's durability varies depending on exposure to abrasion, UV rays, and other outdoors conditions; recoating with the top coat will help extend Ultra-Ever Dry's longevity.

UltraTech 4003 Ultra-Ever Dry Top Coat, 1 Gallon, Translucent White Review
This is an excellent product when applied properly. Getting the surface ready (cleaning, and sanding if necessary) is really important. This is also an important step when applying other coatings and paints, so it makes sense that the surface should be prepared for this also. When the top coat wasn't shaken for enough time, the sprayers didn't spray it very well. This product (the Top Coat) really needs to be mixed for a good 3 minutes straight before it can be sprayed. I've also noticed that drying time is important. The top coat seems to dry very quickly (within seconds). So, the coating seems to work well for water very soon after the top coat is applied. I have tried using the coating to repel oils and paints, and it doesn't always work with every paint or oil. However, if I wait longer for the top and bottom coat to dry (overnight after the top coat is applied), the coating has a better chance of working with something other than water (although certain oils and paints didn't work even after a long dry time).I should note that when I first used this product, I put on either too much or too little product. Even using something as common as spray paint requires a bit of practice to get a nice even and thin spray during every pass. This product certainly requires patience during mixing, while applying multiple thin coats, and while drying. A little bit of patience and reading the instructions can go a long way to getting a good result. Using a good sprayer was also very helpful. The pump and trigger sprayers didn't work well at all, but I've been able to use this some HVLP sprayers and this produced good results.
Please also note that I used both the bottom and top coat, and that the bottom coat needed at least 5 minutes of shaking or mixing. It was tiring, but it was needed to get all of the white solid material to mix back into the liquid evenly. I also let the bottom coat dry for an hour before spraying on higher top coat.
I found this product worked well to keep some exposed electronics splash proof, to keep metal from corroding and to prevent mud and other watery substances from building up.
