DEWALT DWD460 11 Amp 1/2-Inch Right Angle Stud and Joist Drill with Bind-Up Control Review

Milwaukee's Hole Hawg is the gold standard in these larger class of drills, but the DWD460 is a good contender. I picked one up on clearance and didn't use it for months, waiting for the right moment. My 36v Bosch cordless has drilled everything I've asked of it, and Bosch's Dare Devil bits take spade bits to a whole new level and are my preferred tool/bit for electrical work.

When it came time to drill 2 9/16" holes through 12" 100-year-old oak beams, I pulled out the DWD460 and put it to work. It was the only way to get the hole through and worked wonderfully, especially when paired with Irwin's self feed hole saws like the Irwin Industrial Tools 3046013 2-9/16-Inch 3-Cutter Self Feed Drill Bit with their larger hex bit extension. The self feed bits work great, but once I got several inches into the beams I had to remove it and clear out several inches of chips before continuing a couple times... to be expected with such a large/deep hole.

Keep in mind with these larger drills, that the handle should be braced on a stud when using a hole saw. Dewalt does a great job of showing sample photos with the drill properly braced on anything but the smaller ship augers... yes, 1" is quite small for this drill. If you have nothing to brace it on, put a cheater pipe on the handle and have a friend hold the end. The DWD460 has an electronic bind-up control to prevent the drill from breaking your wrist and throwing you off a balcony, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I did not get a chance to try it.

Overall, a great drill with my experience... I haven't used the hell out of it like I do my cordless tools, but it's done some serious work when I needed it when no smaller tool would do it.

Tom Brown Tracker #2 Gray Micarta Handle, Black Blade, Kydex Review

Superior Quality Knife. I am an active duty infantryman deployed in a combat zone in Afghanistan. This knife is a serious tool and not a trophy knife. The blade, made of carbon steel, requires constant maintenance to keep from rusting. The thickness of the blade can make it difficult to sharpen. The T1 original tracker knife is massive and certainly not a toy. The kydex sheath is appealing but worthless since there is nothing really holding the knife in so with the immense wieght of the knife it will fall out at a soft jog. The knife will also drag down if carried scout syle. The blade and serrated edge work very well for their purpose but the wire cutter is too small for c-wire or hesco wire. Prying will destroy the blade, and it's too thick for small cuts. Overall the knife is excellent for the outdoorsman who uses it as intended but not a patrol knife as it's meant for large soft cuts in a wooded surrounding.
