Shop Fox W1668 3/4 HP 13-Inch Bench-Top Drill Press Review

The press was well packaged and undamaged. The instruction and assembly manual did not completely match the drill press I received. I guess, if you can't figure out how to put it together, you shouldn't be using it anyway. I have a small shop. Everything is on casters. For my shop, it's perfect. Easy to operate, change drill speeds and engage the oscillating feature. It comes with a set of sanding drums. The mounting hardware doesn't hold on to the sanding drum very well, but it works. I added a 3/4" plywood deck to the adjustable platform for sanding and drilling larger stock. This helps in keeping your stock square to the drill or sanding drum. The oscillating feature works well, but you need to be careful how much pressure you place on the object you are sanding to keep from damaging the mechanism. Once you figure out the proper pressure on the sanding drum, the results are quite good. The extra money you pay for all the features is worth it.

I purchased this high quality welding corner clamp at the same time as I purchased a Chinese knock-off of this clamp for half the price. The Chinese knock-off is very workable but the fit and finish does not compare with the Bessey clamp. No doubt it will soon wear out with continued use. The Bessey clamp exudes quality. It will be working long after the Chinese clamp is non-working. I nearly always tend to buy the quality tool. I couldn't resist the comparison purchase of both tools to reinforce my tendency. I purchased this tool set brand new from a local sears, and the tools it does have are great. Got a really good price on it too. I would have liked some way to organize the non-socket tools though. They are kept in plastic bags, loose in the hard box...

More importantly, it is missing some of the smaller pieces - the 5 mm black nut driver bit isn't labeled, and I'm not even sure it's 5 mm. It may be 4 or 3??? Also, I received two of the 1/4 inch black nut driver bits, but was missing the 3/16s driver bit.

So I took it back to the store, just to get those pieces. After 20 min on the phone, the store manager gave up trying to get the pieces shipped to me. After 10 min, he gave up trying to find these pieces on his own shelves. We opened up a whole new 200 piece set, and low and behold: this set had the same defects!

Eventually, the store manager gave up on trying to solve my problem at all. I may end up returning the whole thing because of this, and buy a bigger tool set that has more box wrenches. I'll also make sure to check every piece before the return date expires... I expected more from Craftsman.
