Spyderco C36GPSBK Military Lockback Knife Review

I've had the Spyderco Military for about 6 months now and it is an excellent tactical folding knife. My Military has the plain edge blade, which I prefer for a folding knife (unless you plan on cutting a lot of rope I don't see the point of a combo or full-serrated edge in a knife of this size).

With a 4" blade, the Military can serve as both a tactical (read: self defense) or EDC (every day carry) knife for daily utility tasks. I carry this for both purposes. At 4.2oz it's light enough for daily carry, although this is about the biggest knife I would consider for every day carry. The handle is very large for the blade length, which I like as it allows a very good perch on the knife. The high quality G10 handle also helps you get a good grip.

The Military is made of high quality materials and feels very well made. It's more expensive than any of my other folding knives, but as soon as I took it out of the box and handled it I could see why (it just looks and feels like a quality product). The blade steel is S30V steel which is high quality and holds an edge well. Like all my spyderco knifes, the blade is razor sharp right out of the box - easily sharp enough to cut paper and in fact sharp enough to shave the hair on your arm. The blade shape is excellent for both defensive and light utility roles, with a good belly and an extremely sharp point. One disadvantage of this blade shape is the tip may be a bit weak, so keep that in mind.

The blade deploys very easily and quickly. While this is a liner-lock knife (which some people don't like, I don't have a problem with it if executed properly as it is on the Military), the locking mechanism is very secure.

The black handle and black blade look great. The black finish on the blade will wear with time but this gives it character IMO. If you don't like the black finish the Military is available in other color combos, though I only see it in black on Amazon.

The only negative I can point out for this knife is that the pocket clip is fixed for tip down carry (many other spyderco knives allow you to remove the pocket clip and put it on any of the four corners).

Overall this is a great tactical folding knife. I would also recommend taking a look at the the SOG Aegis, which is a bit smaller and cheaper but serves a similar purpose. It goes without saying if you are considering this or other similar sized folding knife, familiarize yourself with the carry laws in your area (it may not be legal to carry this in some areas, or only with a concealed weapons permit etc ... that's up to you to research as the carry laws vary significantly from state to state).

The International Medcom CRM-100 is a hand-held radiation detector that detects potentially harmful ionizing alpha and beta particles, and gamma and x-ray radiation, and features an accumulated total timer function, a Geiger-Mueller (G-M) tube, and LCD digital display of milliroentgens (mR) per hour (mR/hr), counts per minute (CPM), microSieverts ( �Sv) per hour (� Sv/hr), or counts per second (CPS). This radiation detector has the ability to detect levels of the four main types of ionizing alpha and beta particles, and gamma rays and x-rays over automatic operational ranges. It is optimized to detect small changes (low levels) in radiation levels and to have high sensitivity to many common radionuclides.

The CRM-100 features a 4-digit LCD digital display that updates every three seconds. It displays current radiation level in choice of mR/hr, or CPM; or when SI (metric) units are selected, in Sv/hr, or CPS. The detector counts ionizing radiation changes at 3-second intervals. At low background levels, which are typical in a geographic area, the count update is the moving average for the most recent 30-second time period. A moving average helps smooth out short-term data fluctuations. The time period for the moving average decreases, as radiation levels increase. A red LED light flashes with each ionization event. The instrument has an accumulated total count and a timer function that provides total event count for a timed period (from one minute to 40 hours) to determine average CPM for higher accuracy. The radiation detector has an audio indicator with an internally mounted beeper that can be muted. Total timer, audio on/off and units of measurement are selected and displayed using the front-panel mode indicators.

International Medcom CRM-100 Digital Radiation Monitor Review

The CRM100 general purpose geiger counter is excellent for the price.

It will measure for FOUR things: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and X-Ray. For the home user this unit is excellent. There are more sensitive/professional geiger counters out there but those cost big money and are geared for professional users.

The Good Stuff:
#1: Price for what you get!
#2: Easy to learn and use "anybody can use this."
#3: Not too big and light weight.
#4: Comes with a nice black nylon velcroed carrying bag.
#5: Comes with Easy Quick Guide that's not technical.
#6: Big display and easy to see.
#7: No calibrating needed (factory guaranteed for twelve months).

The Ugly Stuff:
#1: It's made of plastic and if dropped it could break.
#2: It's not waterproof.

> NOTE: This unit will not detect radioactive food (like fish). You'll need a very expensive, professional unit for that. NOBODY has a inexpensive detector for that unfortunately.
