I could not find a replacement inducer blower for my particular furnace, a Duomatic Olsen about 20 years old, or any leads, so I researched on-line for a week to see what I could find out about these things. I live in huge metro area, BTW. The knowledgeable old-timer at a HVAC parts place, where I took the non-working old one to, said he did not even know who to call to find a replacement. He noticed it was made in Canada, so he thought maybe that was why it was so weird, and the only possibility was to go to Canada to find one, he thought.

Somebody bought out Duomatic Olsen, so in a way the brand still exists. No info about my furnace or parts for it exists at the new company's site, or anywhere on the Internet. Windjammer, who made the blower, does not make AC inducer blowers any more, and has no info on their site about them or replacements.

The upshot of the research is that furnace repairmen consider furnaces that old as totally obsolete trash. They would replace the furnace. However, my furnace looks practically new inside. The heat exchanger looks like it could be stainless steel. It is shiny where I can see it.

The bearings seize up on old motors, so getting oil on them could make the motor turn again. But it didn't work on this motor. The winding is probably burned.

Quite a few sites sell a huge line of replacements for these kind of parts. They all, or nearly all, appear to be the FASCO line, although they do not necessarily mention that name. None of the hundreds looked like they could replace my blower as is.

Obviously, I would have to splice the old electrical connectors onto a new blower's wires.

From the pictures, I picked a blower that "wrapped" in the right direction. From the specs, I picked one that had about the same RPM and drew about the same amount of current. My housing needed to be closed on the furnace side, as this model is. Some blowers are open on that side, and fit into the furnace. Mine has a 2 inch plastic pipe, whereby it is connected to a pipe on the furnace by a rubber DWV connector to draw the exhaust from the furnace. None of the blowers available appear to have such a thing. I cut a piece of 2 inch schedule 40 PVC, chamfered the end, and the opening to the blower, and epoxied them together.

The diameter of the housing is about 3/4 inch larger than the old one, but close enough to just make it. The screws that hold it to a bracket on the furnace of course did not line up, but I widened some holes in the plastic housing, and angled one screw, so they would at least go into the bracket, and drilled holes in the bracket to match. There are a few more details, but that gives you the idea.

It has been working fine a couple of months. Judging by the sound, it may spin more vigorously than the old one, which may not be ideal. Or maybe the old one just has been limping along for years.

Amazon happens to have a company that sells the identical FASCO product available at many parts sites, for less than any of them, shipped. The price varies a lot. Some are not a lot more, some are like 2 1/2 times. Amazon is sometimes amazing.

I bought this 3 years ago, October 7, 2010. It is still working fine. The price is up $13 since then.

The seller was HVAC MEGA STORE/PATRICKS SUPPLY. They shipped very fast.

It turned out that replacing this part fixed a former problem that I had, on and off, for several years. There were periods when the burners occasionally would not go on, even though everything else in the starting sequence, including this inducer blower, went on correctly. Turning the furnace switch off and on, to make it restart, usually made it work. The problem would also disappear for long periods.

In these kind of furnaces, there is a safety switch operated by the air pressure this blower creates, without which the gas valve will not turn on. I figure the old motor was not spinning as fast as in its earlier days, making the pressure marginal to turn on the safety switch.

The furnace may be good for another 20 years.
