This is hands down the best belt sander you can buy new on the market today for a residential/contractor. Certain companies make worm-drive belt sanders but they run about $600+ to start.

This belt sander is wide enough, powerful enough, fast enough, to sand a living room floor comfortably without having to buy a rented floor sander. It removes material rapidly. The belt stays on. The belt is easy to change out. The dust collection works.

1st word of caution: if you let go this thing will go flying across the room like a race car.
2nd word of caution: if you get your finger caught in the front tip of the belt it will rip finger skin off like butter.

This tool is a huge sander, it is probably 30% bigger than the 8amp porter cables box stores carry.

Belt sanders are great, it does something no other tool can do. A random orbit sander cannot compare to its rate of material removal. A planer is much slower if you get a small planer, and takes too much off if you get a big planer. And planers are horrible at re-finishing irregular surfaces.

But belt sanders also have a tendency to burn out. People have a tendency to want to put their entire body weight into them as they sand because they think it will make it go faster or they just get tired and want something to rest against. The sand paper actually rotates faster if you use a light touch which makes it remove stock faster. Let the tool do the work. The metal case on this dissipates heat faster than plastic. Plastic is actually somewhat insulating. This is also the highest amp hand-held sander I have found.
