I was looking for a bench vise after the base of my old cast Sears vise broke, and it took awhile to find anything other than cheap, cast junk that would break again. A vise must by definition be able to tolerate a lit of strain and pounding, and when I found this Ridgid model made of forged steel, I knew I could quit looking. It may cost twice as much as the others, but one thing I have learned over the years is to not compromise on quality with basic tools. Not only will cheap tools fail when you need them to work, they can cause injuries when they do so. I expect this vise to last well beyond the time I'll be using any tools.
