DeWalt DW735 13" Carbide Tipped Planer Knife set of 3 Review

I have had the DW735 for about 11 months and I truly do believe it a well designed solid machine. I primarily work with reclaimed white oak from the farm I grew up on so it gets a real workout. Honestly, for the money I feel the machine does a great job. I was not expecting miracles from a portable planer, Actually, I think it's kind of scary the machine costs what it does. taking into consideration a tank of gas for my jeep costs 70 dollars...However, it absolutely baffles me that DeWalt does not throw on a better set of knives. Everything else on the machine is built so well, why would you skimp on the knives, they simply dull too fast. And before they are completely dull you will be completely def, so it almost seems like they are getting better..as your hearing fades (yes I wear hearing protection but not so much that I can't hear my machines, knowing their sounds is vital for a tools health) There are a million ways you can justify the blades they use and some people do, I have a feeling these people also have a lot of participation trophies adorning their kids trophy case. From my perspective, they simply don't match the rest of this well built machine, and that's what confuses me. I'm writing this review of the Carbide blades from Titan after using them for maybe 10 feet of nine inch wide white oak. It was amazing, the machine was so quiet that I kept thinking the gauge reading how much I was planing off was broke...nope, these blades are just that good. I write this with optimism, hoping they hold up. I clean and check each board thoroughly with a magnet they are solid carbide tipped so they can chip fairly easily from rocks or hardware left in the wood. They will cost probably around 90 dollars to sharpen, if I ever get to that point. 150 dollars turned this planer into an amazing little machine, now I feel the blades match the tool....I really, really, really, hope they last. $224 is too much money to spend on blades, yes you can do the math and in the long-run they will save you money...the reality is, in the long-run something will probably happen to them, don't count on an unrealistic lifespan. These Titan blades are priced correctly at $140 if they hold up to half of what they boast, and honestly I think they will, as long as I don't feed rocks or metal through them. As for the Byrd Shelix Cutter heads for $400 dollars, um, yeah, I would sell my DW735 and pair it with the $400 to buy a serious unit, I don't think it's wise to drop 400 dollars on an accessory for a tool that cost, well, around 400 dollars.
