Product Description
The Owon HDS2062M-N is a handheld electrical test device that combines a 60 MHz, two-channel, handheld digital oscilloscope for viewing electrical signals with a manual- and auto-ranging digital multimeter for measuring AC and DC voltage to 400V, AC and DC current to 10 amp, resistance to 40 M , and capacitance to 100 μF. The oscilloscope has a maximum real-time sample rate of 250 MS/s and a record length of 6,000 points per channel for acquiring detailed waveforms. Its four math functions add, subtract, multiply, and divide—plus FFT (fast Fourier transform) and 20 automatic measurements such as period, frequency, and peak-to-peak enable an in-depth analysis of waveforms. Up to four waveforms can be stored in the internal memory. The multimeter has two ranging modes: manual, which allows the user to select the operating range, and auto, which automatically selects the appropriate operating range. The delta relative function allows a measurement to be set as a reference value and displays subsequent measurements as a positive or negative deviation from that value, and the data-hold function freezes a reading on the display to aid documentation. A continuity buzzer confirms that the circuit conducts electricity, and a diode check detects whether a circuit's diodes are working properly. Additional specifications include a rise time of 5.8 ns and various triggering features. The unit has a 3.7" color TFT (thin film transistor) LCD with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels for viewing waveforms and measurements. An oscilloscope is used for electronics applications such as product design, assembly lines, repair and servicing, and electrical engineering education, among others. A multimeter is an electrical testing tool for measuring multiple properties of an electrical circuit to verify proper operation or diagnose problems.
The unit has a USB host port and connection cable for storing data on a flash drive (sold separately), a USB device port and an RS-232 port for connecting to a PC, and includes Microsoft Windows compatible software for transmitting data and remote operation. It meets EN (European Standard) 61010-1:2001 safety standard, and is rated for CAT II installations to 400V, which covers energy-consuming equipment connected to a fixed installation, including household, office, and laboratory. It has European Conformity (CE) marking. It comes with two oscilloscope voltage probes; a set of test leads; an extension module for small capacitance measurement; an output terminal for testing of 1 kHz/5V square-wave signal; probe adjustment tools; a USB mass storage connection cable; a USB/RS-232 interface cable; CD-ROM PC software; a rechargeable lithium ion battery; a battery charger/AC adapter for 100 to 240V, 50/60 Hz; and instructions.

Oscilloscopes are electrical testing devices used to verify the functionality of equipment that generates an electrical signal. Oscilloscopes measure the voltage of an electrical signal over time, and display the measurement as a waveform in a visual graph. The waveform shows the sweeps (or refresh) of voltage on a vertical (Y) axis, and the time on a horizontal (X) axis. Details of a waveform demonstrate the signal over time. Most oscilloscopes have two or four channels for inputting a signal. Some digital oscilloscopes offer more than four channels, allowing channels to be dedicated to specific signals and applications. Bandwidth is the maximum frequency of a signal that an oscilloscope can capture. A constant image will display if a signal is shown at a high frequency. Oscilloscopes may be analog, digital, or mixed signal. An analog oscilloscope directly displays an input signal as a continuous waveform, typically in a luminous phosphor on a cathode ray tube (CRT). A digital oscilloscope converts the input signal into a digital format and reassembles the waveform for display, typically on an LCD. A mixed signal oscilloscope (MSO) displays both analog and digital formats. Some oscilloscopes can display more than one channel and type of measurement simultaneously. Some oscilloscopes can capture waveform signals to memory, and recall them. They may provide real-time intensity grading, and may have the ability to adjust frequency of display. Oscilloscopes can be powered with batteries or electricity, or may have a built-in generator. They are commonly used for testing, measuring, and inspecting in science, engineering, telecommunications, automotive, and electronics applications.

Owon HDS2062M-N Series HDS-N Handheld Digital Storage Oscilloscope, 60MHz, 2 Channels, 250MS/s Sample Rate Review
I've had a Fluke 123 Scopemeter more than five years and that costs almost triple this one. It has been very handy and easy to use. I also have an old Toshiba analog scope and a bench digital scope -- neither of which I use since I got the Fluke.I like my new OWON HDS1022M-N much better. It has every feature that the old ones have, including portabality, plus an easy-to-use interface. And its price is incredibly low. Best of all, it connects by USB to my laptop!
OWON Oscilloscope features
-- 3.7inch, 640x480, 65536-color display
-- 7.4V Li-ion battery (has lasted more than 4 hours so far)
-- 20MHz analog bandwidth, 2 channels,
-- 100 Million samples/s, 6,000 points/channel per record
-- 8-bit accuracy
-- 5ns/div to 100 sec/div horizontal
-- 5mV/div to 5V/div vertical, max 400V peak
-- Horiz, Vert, FFT cursors
-- CH1, CH2, both, and X-Y (CH1 horiz/CH2 vert Lissajou) display modes
-- CH1+CH2, CH1-CH2, CH2-CH1, CH1*CH2, CH1/CH2 Math modes

-- Trigger: Pos edge, Neg edge, Video, Alternate (CH1-CH2-CH1- etc), Auto run, Normal(when triggered), Single shot modes
-- The controls and UI is very similar to other (expensive) portable digital scopes.
Multimeter features
-- max 750 Volts
-- DCV - 400mV to 400V
-- ACV - 4V to 400V
-- DCA (current) - 40mA to 20A
-- ACA (current) - 40mA to 20A
-- Resistance - 400 ohms to 40M-ohm
-- Capacitance - 50 nF to 100 uF
-- Diode -- 0 to 1.5V forward
-- most of the above have a "delta" settting that permit you to reset "zero." This is handy when measuring a capacitor/resistor to eliminate lead capacitance/resistance, and to measure delta voltage.
The Scope and Multimeter sections are electically indepentent, that is, they don't have a common ground. This means you don't have to worry about ground loops or shorting out a circuit you may be measuring. Each section also has separate leads, probes and inputs on the HDS1022. And each has it's own buttons: scope above, meter below. It's very handy and easy to use -- one button toggles the display between the sections.
The OWON HDS1022M-N is shipped with two very nice 1X-10X scope probes, a beautiful red/black pair of multimeter leads, AC charger, probe adjust tool, printed manual, CD with Windows software, a capacitance module (for measuring < 10 nF), and a 5V, 1kHz plug-in module for calibrating the probes.
One very nice feature is the scope's USB-to-laptop connection to the OWON software. In addition to the USB-to-thumbdrive capability (to save the current display as a file), there is a separate USB connection from the OWON to your PC/laptop. Both USB connections can be used at the same time! (These use two special, supplied USB cables.)
The OWON Oscilliscope Software allows you to capture digital data from the HDS1022 and display it on your laptop's screen. This seems to work almost as fast as it's captured by the scope itself. It's easier to use cursors to get various digital measurements, perform math, and display simultanious FFT on the laptop. The the laptop-generated FFT is more detailed. You can print and save the image.
The supplied CD has documentation and the software, but the latter did not communicate with the OWON. I simply downloaded a newer version from owon.com.cn that works perfectly. Tip - on the OWON, press the MENU button and scroll to DISP SET, then make sure that "Vectors Carry" is set (not Bitmap). This sends the digital data over the USB to your laptop in a raw format that can be manipulated, otherwise all you can do is view a bitmap of the display.
I received all these items in a stout, padded, all-aluminium carring case -- that is listed as "optional" in the manual!
My suggestion is that you go to the T&M Atlantic website (see Sellers, above) and download the pdf manual to read all about this scope. Note, the excellent PC software is not discussed -- or even mentioned -- in any of the manuals I could find.
All in all, I really am happy that I now have a
fully functional,
portable,
digital, with math and FFT,
low-cost,
scope
AND multimeter,
in one package.
The build quality is at the excellence level that we now enjoy from China in our smartphonres and other electronie consumer devices.
If you need a faster scope there's the OWON 60 MHz HDS2062M-N and the 100 MHz HDS3102M-N that have the same features and low price as this one.
