I've done oval sleeves for wire rope before but usually aluminum sleeves. For my current project, I needed to crimp a 5/32 stainless steel sleeve and this swager did the job NICELY!

If you're looking at this, I would only assume you, the reader, understand what this is and how it works so I'll just describe my experience.

I'm not a HUGE guy, but I've done my dues in the gym and I run a fab shop so this tool comes in REALLY handy. The handles are about 24" long which you would think is plenty of leverage, since the jaws are compounded to multiply pressure at the jaws. I think if this thing had 36" jaws, it would be much better, or at least come with extensions. 5/32-S is only the center position. There are two positions larger. I had to close the handles against the concrete floor to get the jaws to close, so I have no idea if I would be able to close the jaws on a 3/16 stainless steel, but I think I'll be pressing my knee(s) against it, which would make it a lot more dangerous. I may have to weld on a bracket on one handle to stabilize it during operation.

Oh, on the spine of the tool is a rope cutter. It does a great job of cutting the 5/16 316 SS (19 strand) rope.

But overall, this is a good tool. I do recommend it. As always, I rate products that I am impressed with, with 4-stars because there is always something to improve on. In this case, the cutter could probably be redesigned to cut the rope closer to the sleeve. The closest cut I was able to perform was about 3/4" from the sleeve. This is WAY out there. It should be no more than about 1/4" from the sleeve, otherwise the end gets frayed and becomes dangerous.
